Dr. RK Mani is a well known name as a pioneer and opinion leader in the fields of Critical Care and Pulmonology. He has made a mark as a clinician, academician, teacher and medical administrator in a career spanning 34 years. He was instrumental in developing critical care, pulmonology and sleep medicine in several reputed hospitals; beginning with Batra Hospital, then with Indraprastha Apollo, Delhi Heart and Lung Institute, Fortis, Artemis, Saket City (Max Smart) in Delhi NCR, and Nayati Medicity in Mathura. In the last hospital, as a Medical CEO, he successfully pursued his long cherished dream of setting up tertiary care facilities in the interiors of the country.
In the clinical arena he is among the pioneers who developed non-invasive ventilation and Sleep Medicine in India. His research interests and publications in the last fifteen years have been, among others, on extra corporeal lung assistance, antibiotic therapy & infection control, biomedical ethics and end of life care. He leads the nation-wide professional advocacy to curtail the inappropriate use of interventions towards the end of life. He is a former President of the Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine and Chief Editor of the Indian Journal of Critical Care Medicine.
